Workshop Descriptions
Plants Unlimited
In this workshop with expressive artist, Victoria Pittman, we will work in several methods to create free and spirited natural forms. This class uses a unique combination of oriental painting techniques and pen manipulation to produce the nature/floral forms which will be rendered in ink, watercolor and acrylics.
Botanical walks and plant identification on the grounds (if possible), as well as fresh specimens in class will provide inspiration for our painting.
Our final presentations will integrate the florals with our lettering. We will create simple cards as well as larger pieces.
Silver and gold leafing will also be used as a background for our florals in a collage like presentation.
Tortured Metals, Tangled Words
M e t a l s C o l l a g e
Incorporate metal, textures and color with traditional and non-traditional elements as you create exquisite metal leafed papers on acrylic backgrounds. Use transfer techniques and patinas to further develop surfaces. Find new freshness in your work through an intuitive design approach by working with carefully selected fragments, letterforms, natural and industrial objects, copper and brass and silver sheet. Genuine Silver, gold and palladium leaf will also be used. Fun, Creativity and exploration will culminate in finished mixed media collage or assemblages
Abstract Flourishing
From small intimate designs to large exuberant expressions of the spirit, we are born to flourish!
In this innovative approach to the art of flourishing, we will tap into our spirits and explore the endless possibilities inherent in this art. The success of a beautiful flourish depends on the principal of "disciplined freedom". We will begin our class with exercises to help us execute controlled and neatly integrated flourishes as they relate to calligraphy. As we become more comfortable with the movements used to create graceful flourishes, we will move from the controlled to the expressive, using our flourishes in an expansive and abstract way.
After carefully selecting shapes, we will use transfer techniques to turn our flourished designs into abstract works of art. A choice of flourished lettering, large freeform flourishes in acrylics and flourishes in raised gold and silver will define the final collage and assemblage pieces.
